I've now moved to http://www.kristinasalgvik.com, please click the link to follow me there! It's much bigger and lusher, I love it and hope you will too. Update bookmarks and RSS-feeds and it'll be just like the old days, but better!

See you on the other side,

So yeah, going through old stuff (a lot of which I'd forgotten I had - exciting!) and playing around. This is another example.

I get extra super homesick sometimes and it's mostly to do with missing my friends and family. Yesterday I spent 1,5 hours catching up with this hunk - my friend Peter who, apart from being hunky, is a ridiculously talented hairdresser/stylist. If my hair could weep it would from not being close to him anymore. Check some of his creations out here!

Sometimes you take photos and put them aside for a while, maybe they weren't what you were after at the time.
I'm going through my old stuff to refresh my memory and see what's there. Found this pic of Hampus which I cropped and made black and white. I like it! Good old Scandinavian cheekbones... (It's worth clicking on to view full size)

We've been lucky to have many visitors and the weekends go quickly. DO pop round!

The open house weekend went great - I thought that most of our visitors would be mates but it turned out that most people that came were strangers! Very exciting! I failed to bring a camera however so can't show any photos. FAIL. Will make sure I've got my camera next weekend.

Took some photos for a community project/collaboration with Polish social workers today and snook out to take this portrait of Karola, a Polish girl who's a Brighton resident. She told me she gets told off in airports sometimes for wearing too much clothes...! I think she's brilliant. The colours!!

(please click to enlarge - the small image doesn't do the outfit justice)

As I said before me and my friend Ole are exhibiting in the open house festival - here's what the flyer looks like (front and back):

Do come if you have the chance! There'll be tea and cakes too!

Tuesday 26 April 2011

Right - long time no see. I know. I've been busy trying to sort my computer life out - ie organising my negatives, working on website etcetera... Organising, scanning and filing negatives takes a looong time and isn't that stimulating...
Also, me and my dear friend Ole are exhibiting in the Brighton open house festival in May so been preparing for that. Deciding what to show, how to print, scan, make flyers and so on...

Anyway; it's been a bit too much sitting down and staring at the screen - the other day when my friend and chiropractor came round and showed me some basic yoga positions he stated that I was 'shockingly inflexible'. Ok, I get it. Less computer staring, more out and about!

Do notice his stern medical look - I get it, I get it! Will exercise I promise!

Thursday 3 March 2011

I guess as a rule of thumb one should try and avoid taking portraits from a low angle but they do work sometimes. Especially when the subject's as good looking as James (and it's too dark to peek up the nose...)

I miss the Swedish woods. This is a photo of my mum from last summer. If you're observant (and click to enlarge) you can see that she's matched her glasses with the foliage. We're very fashion aware, you know, us Swedes.

Friday 18 February 2011

Gabriel came to visit! He has left his cabin in the Swedish woods (literally!) to come and live in London. The slightly religious look in his eyes is from watching the starlings fly over the derelict pier in the sunset.

(In case you have no idea what I'm talking about, there's more info about the starlings here or click the image below, they're a very pretty sight indeed)

Soo, another man; lovely photographer; sofa - but not from the archive, this is brand new. Shot yesterday!
Was a bit nervous about shooting Ben, always am when I'm taking pictures of photographers (probably because they actually know what I'm doing, can't bullshit), but I'm quite happy with this one. I like all the lines...
It's been a while since I shot anything on the 'Blad so was a bit rusty but went alright and god I love it. My Nikon DSLR doesn't compare at all...

(I recommend clicking this one to enlarge it...)

Ben's got a blog and even if he's about as slack about updating his as I am, I still think you should check it out - here!

Tuesday 8 February 2011

Whilst we're on the subject; another old photo, another friend and fellow great photographer, Simon. Website here. I seem to remember he was getting fed up with modelling at this point...

As much as I love my scanner it seems to have a slight problem with b/w - the Tri-X grain just transforms into pixelated horribleness and the pictures go grey and dull... (ok this might be slightly underexposed but stiiiiill) Good to know and not that much of a problem I guess since I hardly ever shoot black and white.

Happy Tuesday!

Sunday 6 February 2011

I know it might seem like it sometimes but I don't just take pictures of men - although they are a favourite subject...

To continue the black and white spiel; here's another couple from the archive. They're really old (well 5-6 years or so) and it's the first time I've done anything with them, nice to see them up big. Julia is a friend and fellow photographer - and a very good one at that, check her out here!

Monday 31 January 2011

I hardly ever shoot anything in black and white, as much as I enjoy looking at nicely done b/w stuff I can't seem to get it right myself.

There are the odd ones though - here's a really old photo of my lovely friend Pär. Although I'm not 100% sure about it (which obviously has nothing to do with the model and all to do with me being indecisive about the blur and underexposure) there's something in it that I like. Maybe it's the lines or maybe just his look of slight disdain...

Miss you Pär, come visit!

Happy New Year!

.. sorry about my absence. But hey who cares about January anyway! Everyone's cold and poor and miserable, that doesn't need to be blogged...

Another picture from last summer, from Malmö. Thought sunshine would be appropriate to start the new blog year with. I saw a documentary about the people in Greenland who, when the sun finally reappears in January, gather to sing and watch it rise. I love that.

Welcome dear 2011.
