So, as the picture above hints I'm in cold Sweden. I left Gatwick yesterday and flew to Gothenburg where I stayed at Hank's. Today we took the train to go home - and what a train! It was beautiful, probably from the 50's or 60's (which explains the snow and ice by the corridor exit - luckily it wasn't that cold in the coach...!) with lovely little design features.
I love train rides anyway but this was particularly nice - great train, great company (with great gadgets such as an iPad), and last but not least - great views! Looking out the window everything seemed like a Caspar David Friedrich painting.

I'm still going through the negs from the summer and I'm getting quite sentimental. I don't regret moving to England and I doubt I'll be going back to Sweden any time soon, but christ there are so many people in Sweden I miss sooo much.
Like this babe - you should be able to tell from the picture, but in case you can't; she's absolutely brilliant.
Hi Bine, I miss you.

Soo, I've got a scanner, and I've started scanning negatives from when I went to Sweden with the Mamiya 7.
Originally I was going to post a different photo here tonight but then I got caught up in the world and it got a bit late - and what's more suitable in the evening time than a bit of nudity...? So here you are; I bring you Peter to fulfil all the dreams you didn't know you had...

Hey - long(ish) time no see but I've been ill and busy. I have GREAT NEWS though -
I NOW HAVE A SCANNER
whoa you must be every bit as excited as me! If it wasn't for the fact that I'll have to go out every once in a while to actually take pictures I'd happy sit here all day every day, listen to Bon Iver, drink tea... and get square eyes.
So I won't.
But anyway, enough of that. First scan - I've played around with it a bit but not too much. I guess it's a case of 'practise makes perfect' and I need to figure out how best to scan - what settings to use (and how to not break the ridiculously flimsy film holders) etcetera.
This is a portrait of Rudi, who - besides from being a lovely guy and the son of my boss - is in the great band Melodica, Melody and Me. Check them out, I made a link and everything!

I know I'm behind with the London stuff and I will post it but just have to show pictures from today - there's a lot of snow in Brighton at the moment and Tash and I went for a long walk in the sunshine. It was lovely and just what I needed. There were lots of tea breaks (Tash seems to inadvertently have invented the rooibos-coffee, however we both doubt it'll be the Next Big Thing at Star****s), lots of getting slightly lost and lots of almost falling over - but we got there in the end and in one piece (well, two...) at that.
Stay warm...

Sannah came to visit all the way from Stockholm! At the weekend we took the train to London and went to the Tate to see this piece by Chinese artist Ai Weiwei.
We also saw London by night (well, eve) and of course lovely Andrew who kindly let us stay at his'. He's possibly the best host ever - (and not only because of his fox mask, that's just a bonus) he fed us, entertained us, introduced us to rugby men... what more could one ask for?

It's been a busy week with Sweden visitors and London trips and whatnot. I'll post something a little more extensive once I've edited everything but first I'll just show you this portrait of Simon. Remember the base guitar hunt in July? Well, this time Simon managed to get it back - happy endings!
Not that I think Simon should be a musician, I mean look at the picture - he's clearly an author!

Long time no see. I'm sorry (Are you still reading? Is there really anyone there to apologise to? I hope so...). I could blame a lot of things but blaming things doesn't really work now, does it. I can only blame myself, so I will.
Anyway. I'll hopefully get my hands on a scanner next week which will also mean more activity to this blog since I'm only really shooting film at the moment.
The other night I dreamt of being in the woods in the fog. There were such lovely trees and I was of course taking pictures of them - I'm as you may or may not know slightly obsessed with trees. Now according to the dream dictionary (which, by the way, I obviously LOVE), dreaming about fog means confusion, troubles, scandal, uncertainty and worries. You may not be seeing things the way they really are. You may have lost your sense of direction in life.
Huh. Ouch. But then dreaming about trees - or in this particular case - a cedar, apparently means longevity, durability, strength, endurance and immortality. The dream may be trying to offer reassurance during a difficult time in your life.
Aaah bless the good old cedar! Immortality, eh...?
This is from when I was in Sweden and stumbled upon the forest where clouds are made! And then the mightiest rain EVER came - can you see it? I hid under trees for half an hour but then had to give up and get soaked. God I love heavy rains.
Have these on film as well so they might reappear in high quality some day, who knows...
See you soon.

So yes; I miss the Scandinavian light but the Brighton light isn't too bad either...
Fellow (and brilliant!) photographer Francesca came to visit and matched her skirt with the sky...! These are the first shots I've done using my new split screen for my Hasselblad (I was always struggling to get the images sharp before) and it seems to be doing its job. Yay!

Soooo, we're halfway through October and this is my first post of the month. Me bad. Anyway. No guilt!
Went to my lovely friend Martin's house the other day to try out his scanner - fun times! So did finally manage to get some 6x7 from this summer scanned. Pretty happy with what I got from the Mamiya 7, will definitely try and use it again.
This is my dear friend Pär in Malmö. Do click to enlarge!

WHOA what a slacker I'm being with my blog posts. I think it's mostly because I'm so frustrated about not being able to get the 6x7 stuff scanned and published. Might resort to buying my own scanner which is very, very tempting at the moment. Especially as I've just ordered a new focus screen - split screen one! - for my Hasselblad which means even more film stuff coming up...
Anyway; one from the digital archives meanwhile. Mum in the woods, just in the middle of blinking.
Oh and the other day I went to London and won 'best emerging photographer' at the get-together arranged by the e-creative guys! Well chuffed! So happy to be selected to participate to begin with, and then winning the photography category was of course even better!! There were lots of lovely people (and lots of lovely canapes...) and I had a very nice evening. Yays!

Yesterday there was an election in Sweden and unfortunately the racist party Sverigedemokraterna got many votes and subsequently seats in the parliament. Sad, sad day and I'm worried about all these right-wing winds blowing through Europe... what are people so scared of?
Anyway, apart from the miserable Sunday I had a very nice weekend with late night swims, birthday celebrations, hang outs with lovely people and quite a bit of work at the café which has been good too.
Here's one from Thursday which one could say is the start of the weekend. Nick and Kill have moved to Brighton and I'm so happy to have them here, especially as the trend seems to be people moving out of Brighton rather than in to it.
Woo pretty boys! Pulling faces, but still... you can't hide the prettiness!

So I saw Jónsi play last night. It is probably one of the best, if not THE best concert/experience/thing I've ever seen. I just love him. Songs, visuals, lyrics... I think he might be the next Jesus/Buddha/Good Guy of choice.
This youtube clip doesn't really make it justice at all and in a way I don't want to spoil anything for those who are going to see him (which, by the way, EVERYONE SHOULD) but for those of you who won't, well. I know it's a long clip but it's worth it. Especially around 4:10.
More Jónsi for the people!

(OK after posting I realise that this blog thingy cuts the clip in half. If you're bothered, just right click and choose 'watch on youtube', or click here.)

This morning Tom came round to have his picture taken for his work's website. It's always nice to see him and it was also nice to get my camera out and take some photos, seeing as I've been a bit lazy with the picture-taking lately.
Now I'm editing, listening to Leonard Cohen (mostly this album) and tonight I'll go and see Jónsi at the Brighton Dome. Can't wait!!

I'm back! Back in England; back to blogging. Long time no see.
Sorry about my lack of posts - remember I said I brought a Mamiya with me to Sweden? Well I've had the negatives developed and would like to post some of the photos but getting them into the computer realm has proven tricky... Will try again tomorrow. Fingers crossed! I realise you all must be excited beyond belief!
And whilst we're on the 'long time no see'-subject (and for the sake of posting a photo and not just a rant); here's an old picture of someone I haven't seen or heard from for a loooong time: Cyril.
I know two people from France and they're both called Cyril. Anyways, Cyril, if you read this - EMAIL ME otherwise I'm gonna assume that you've indeed been eaten somewhere in the jungle. You know I'm a worrier like that.
